Arc Cinema - Navan

Every now and again you get a chance to photograph something different and this was one such instance, photographing The Arc Cinema in Navan, County Meath, Ireland. The aim was to show the new interior and exterior designs completed by Oppermann Associates, the architects based in Dublin.

Many of the shots would have to be taken in low light to capture the essence and intimacy of a cinema, but also with the long range of the room a very high aperture would be required to get as much of the room in focus, unless you want to focus stack multiple images.

I opted for long exposures as the floor was rock solid and could handle it, sometimes up to 20 seconds long and using my Sony Gmaster 16-35mm lens.

The outside of the building presented challenges too as there was a high wall directly opposite the building so you cannot get far enough away from the building really, using a 16mm lens I was able to capture all of the building in one shot but it does mean the image has distorted angles, however with the nature of the subject being entertainment/movies it allows it in this case. It may not have been a solution for a bank for example. A very enjoyable project and I loved seeing inside the projection room and getting a look at the technology used in a modern cinema.
